Guanghua’s International PhD Program (IPHD) aims at educating and developing young management scholars who are able to conduct highly qualified scientific research, to advance the quality of management research in mainland China and globally.
Modeled after PhD programs in North American research Universities, the full-time program is designed for candidates with outstanding intellectual abilities and strong commitment to research, to produce university faculty members who are excellent researchers and teachers, especially in business schools. The program uses English language for all courses, papers, and dissertations. The program faculty includes many famous international scholars who teach some of the courses and serve on students’ dissertation committees.
Financial support is offered by both the university and the school. Students are not allowed to work on non-research projects while enrolled in the IPHD program. An opportunity to participate in an international exchange is provided on a competitive basis. Travel support is provided for international conference attendance if a student presents a first or single author paper at the conference. Besides, the program encourages academic research by awarding best papers through an annual IPHD poster session, and awarding best dissertation proposals by an annual dissertation proposal competition.
The program follows a strict annual-review system. Those who cannot pass the annual review may be disqualified from continuing in the IPHD study in the next year. Such students may be allowed be complete a Master’s degree instead.
Program areas
The program admits doctoral candidates in areas of organizational behavior and human resources management, marketing and strategic management. Each area of study admits on average 11 students per year.
Program length
The program lasts five years for students without a Master degree and four years for Master-degree holders.
Entry requirements
ü A Bachelor or Master Degree holder.
ü Competitive applicants should have good UG and/or PG grades, strong references, and some research experience, having a clear interest in pursuing a scholarly career with a position at a research oriented university.
ü A GMAT test score of 680 or higher, or a GRE test score of 1300 in minimum for verbal and quantitative sessions. Scores lower than the requirements could be considered on a competitive basis.
ü Applicants who undertook their studies in a language other than English are required to demonstrate English language proficiency by providing TOEFL scores of no less than 600.
ü The CET-6 pass is accepted for applicants without a Master degree. However, such students have to achieve the program required TOEFL and GRE/GMAT scores by the end of their first year study, if they wish to continue their IPHD study.
Application
Applicants should follow the PKU Master or PhD application procedures and requirements and provide all PKU-required application information, official TOEFL, and GMAT/GRE scores (or CET-6 certificate for applicants without a Master degree) together with two copies of one- page (single space) statement of purpose in English explaining clearly the motivation for research and PhD study, to:

Admission evaluation
ü Undergraduates who are qualified for exemption from Master Entrance Examination will be recruited from the Guanghua’s Summer Camp in July of each year. Please visit http://www.gsm.pku.edu.cn/article/1336/5119.html for the detailed information on the Summer Camp.
ü Undergraduates who are not qualified for exemption of Master Entrance Examination are required to take the exam (click here for detailed exam subject information) in January 2009 and the qualified applicants are then required to attend an IPHD Evaluative Interview in March 2009.
ü Applicants with a Master degree are required to attend the general doctoral admission examination of Peking University (click here for detailed exam subject information) in March 2009 and the passed applicants are then required to attend an IPHD Evaluative Interview in April 2009.
ü Applications are reviewed thoroughly by the IPHD committee, comprised of Guanghua faculty and invited international professors. The committee selects qualified students based on evidence of outstanding intellectual ability and a strong commitment to a career in research. The student’s performance on standardized tests, the strength of recommendation letters, the academic record at the applicant’s undergraduate/graduate institution, and his/her research agenda, with its fit within the general research interests of GSM’s faculty, are all evaluated. The IPHD Program committee then makes its recommendations for admission to Guanghua School of Management. Peking University makes the official admission decisions and notifies applicants in June 2009.

2009年IPHD招生简章
光华管理学院"国际博士项目（IPHD）招收智力突出并对研究有强烈奉献精神的本科、硕士毕业生，教育和培养能够进行高质量科学研究并与主流研究领域接轨的年轻管理学者，旨在为中国顶尖商学院培养教学人才，提高中国管理学的研究质量。
该项目2009年继续在企业管理专业招生。2009年组织行为和人力资源管理、市场营销以及战略管理等三个方向拟招收24名硕博连读生（其中推荐免试招收18人，主要从2008年夏令营中招收）和10名左右博士生（含少量直博生、硕转博学生和国外留学生），全部进入IPHD项目，进行全英文授课、培养。
一、 招生对象
1. 具有国家承认学位的优秀本科、硕士毕业生。
2. 符合北京大学硕博连读条件的在读硕士研究生。
二、 报名条件
1、本科和硕士学习期间成绩优秀，具有一定的研究经历，出色的分析能力和强旺的求知动机。
2、 GMAT不低于680分或GRE不低于1300分（均5年有效），对于低于该成绩的考生，可根据报考情况择优考虑录取。
3、 母语为非英语语言的考生，其TOEFL成绩不低于600分（两年有效）。本科或硕士阶段为英文授课的非英语专业考生可提交英文授课证明，替代TOEFL成绩。
4、 本科起点考生可用英语6级（通过）的成绩替代TOEFL,GRE/GMAT成绩报考，入学一年内再提交TOEFL,GRE/GMAT成绩。不能按时提交英语成绩的学生不能继续参加项目学习。
三、 报名材料：
1．本科起点考生提交报考北京大学硕士研究生须提交的所有申请材料，硕士起点考生提交报考北京大学博士研究生须提交的所有申请材料；
2．英文的个人陈述（两份）,简述申请人的研究兴趣和选择本项目的原因，长度为一页。
3. GMAT或GRE成绩复印件。
4. 母语不是英语的学生需要提交TOEFL成绩，本科或研究生阶段为全英文授课的非英语专业学生可提交英文授课证明，替代TOEFL成绩。
5. 本科起点学生可提交通过英语6级的证明报考，入学一年内提交TOEFL和GRE/GMAT成绩。
四、 报考、考试及录取：
1.符合北京大学接收推荐免试攻读研究生条件的本科毕业生按照北京大学相关的推荐免试规定报考， 2009年推荐免试生主要从2008年夏令营录取，2008年夏令营活动安排请浏览http://www.gsm.pku.edu.cn/article/1336/5119.html。其他本科毕业生按照硕士研究生报考程序和要求报名，于2009年1月参加初试(点击浏览考试科目信息），获得复试资格的考生将于2009年3月份参加复试。
3. 由光华管理学院的教师和邀请的国外教授组成的IPHD招生委员会将详细审阅申请材料，甄选智力能力突出、对研究有奉献精神的学生。标准化测试的成绩、推荐信的力度、申请人本科/研究生就读的机构、申请人的研究计划、以及申请人的研究与光华管理学院的教师的研究兴趣相适应的程度等等，都是评价的内容。招生委员会在综合评定之后向光华管理学院推荐录取人选。光华管理学院对录取候选人做出录取决定后，将上报北京大学研究生院，由北京大学研究生院于2009年6月份书面通知本人。
五、 培养及学位授予
该项目借鉴北美通行的博士博士生培养模式，本科起点学生按照硕博连读培养，学制5年，硕士起点学生学制四年，采用全日制全英文授课。本项目将为学生提供与国际标准和国际通行研究方法接轨的专业研究技能，聘请国内外知名教授授课并参与学生论文的指导工作。学生在学习初期即同光华管理学院的教授和国外教授合作进行项目研究，并在研究和毕业论文上接受他们的指导。通过研究和合作，学生有望继续在学术研究上做出成绩。
项目提供奖学金，对出国参加国际学术会议予以补贴、创造出国交流机会、每年以展板论文评选、最佳毕业论文开题报告的形式奖励有研究潜力的学生。本项目学习中将实行严格的年度评估制度，年度评估不合格的学生将不能继续参加项目学习。
学习期满，学完规定的课程，成绩合格，修满学分，并完成毕业论文，通过答辩，符合北京大学博士学位授予条件者，授予北京大学管理学博士生毕业证书和学位证书。
